Closing the Gap
Disasters and climate-related risks are becoming more intense, frequent, and complex. Climate change is amplifying uncertainty — putting pressure on systems, communities, and the organisations supporting them.
Too often, planning during preparedness and recovery phases is under-resourced, disconnected from those most affected, or designed in ways that don’t reflect local realities. Strategies are developed in silos, implementation is rushed, and communities are consulted too late — if at all.
Ocean to Peak Consulting was created to close that gap. We support NGOs, governments, and organisations to bridge global frameworks with grounded, practical solutions — so disaster and climate planning is not only technically sound, but shaped with the people it’s designed for.
Sharing the Journey
My journey into this work began over 15 years ago. Volunteering as a teenager sparked a lifelong commitment to people, cultures, and a passion for reducing the impact of disasters. My experience spans over a decade, across continents and contexts — from disaster planning to resettlement programmes to community development.
That journey has continually reinforced one insight: the strongest strategies are co-created with people, not just delivered to them. Since living in Aotearoa, a Māori proverb has captured this belief beautifully:
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, he tangata, he tangata.
What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people.
This principle sits at the heart of our approach — working with people to unpack complexity, challenge assumptions, and design solutions that actually hold up in context.
